Palermo. Box. Me.

/ Exhibition / Book

This is a story about loneliness, separation, battles, especially the ones with oneself.
It is also a story about the road.
This is my personal story and me trying to deal with myself.

From the summer of 2018 until the winter of 2019-2020 I took several trips to Palermo, Sicily. I lived half of the time there. I chose Palermo because it sounded “real”, rough… I did not know what to expect and did not know anybody there. I started going to a boxing club with the idea of not being alone when practicing a sport, also because it sounded rough, and maybe subconsciously I wanted to be hit. I fell in love with the sport and with the way it made me feel. I found a strong analogy with life and falling and being able to stand up again. I was in a very vulnerable place back then and felt hope that I would be able to stand up again. I started photographing the sport, myself and my journey. This is the result.
